Mississippi State Begins Postseason Play at SEC Championship

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Mississippi State's men's golf program will begin Championship Season in postseason play this week. The Bulldogs travel to St. Simons Island, Georgia, to compete in the 2022 SEC Championship on April 20-24.

The five-day event includes both stroke and match play on the par-70, 7,005-yard Sea Island Golf Club's Seaside Course. Teams will begin the event with traditional stroke play from Wednesday until Friday. The top eight teams will then advance to match-play quarterfinals. Both the quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be held Saturday, followed by the championship match Sunday. SEC Network+ will have digital coverage of the matches on Saturday, and the final match will be televised nationally on the SEC Network on Sunday.

The 2022 SEC Championship field includes 10 of the nation's top-25 teams, with all 14 teams ranked in the top-65 according to Golfstat.com's most recent rankings. Reigning SEC champion No. 3 Vanderbilt leads the field, with No. 10 Arkansas, No. 12 Georgia, No. 15 Auburn, No. 16 Florida, No. 18 Tennessee, No. 19 Texas A&M, No. 21 Ole Miss, No. 22 South Carolina and No. 25 LSU joining them in the top-25.

"I'm excited for the guys this week," said head coach Dusty Smith. "I know we have been preparing for postseason all year. We need to play within ourselves, trust and believe in what makes Mississippi State golf successful."
Leading State, Ford Clegg takes the No. 1 spot for the event. Clegg has competed in every team event this season for the Bulldogs. He is making his third SEC Championship appearance this week.

Hunter Logan will take the second spot for State. At last year's SEC Championship, Logan finished inside the top 10. He shot his previous career-best 18-hole round at the Championships last spring with a 3-under 67. Logan then tied that score in the second round of last week's Mossy Oak Collegiate.

Pedro Cruz Silva is coming off a solid outing last week where he fired the second lowest 54-hole score of his career (217) at the Mossy Oak Collegiate.

Ben Nelson and Ruan Pretorius will also be in the lineup. Pretorius has started in five of six tournaments this spring. Harrison Davis will serve as an alternate at the 2022 SEC Championship. Davis shot a 6-under 66 in the final round of the Mossy Oak Collegiate, giving him his best career finish at tied for ninth and his career-low 18-hole score.

The Bulldogs are set to tee off beginning at approximately 8:40 a.m. CT with fixed tee times. State will be paired with the Kentucky Wildcats throughout the first round.
