Road Stretch Continues for the Dawgs with Visit to The Swamp
April 14, 2022 | Track & Field
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Mississippi State track and field program hits the road for the third time in as many weeks, traveling to Gainesville, Florida, for the Tom Walker Invitational – hosted by conference foe Florida. The meet is the third of four-straight road meets in the month of April for the Maroon and White.
Â
The meet begins Friday, April 15, at 1 p.m. CT with the men's discus, featuring Cade Finley, Daniel Pepper and Jeremiah Pierce. State's Sydney Steely gets the Bulldogs going on the track at 4 p.m. CT in the women's 1500m. State will then wrap up Day One in the men's (6:15 p.m. CT) 400m hurdles with Gabriel Moronta and Samuel Smith representing the Maroon and White.
Â
The Bulldogs arrive to The Swamp with four of their event squads currently ranked in the top-eight nationally:
"I'm expecting to see the team rise to the level of competition we're going to have at this meet – there will be several teams ranked in the top twenty-five. I want to see how we perform against some of the best. This will be a very big weekend for us, and we cannot afford to waste any opportunities."
Â
Thirteen total Bulldogs recorded personal bests in Oxford for the Joe Walker Invite (April 8-9), across nine different events. Jhordyn Stallworth highlighted the weekend by breaking her own school record in the women's discus. Her throw of 52.67m surpassed her mark at last season's SEC Outdoor Championships (51.01m, 5/13/2021).
