April 01, 2022 | Men's Golf
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Mississippi State will head to the clubhouse after round one at the Mason Rudolph Championship at tied for 7th place. The Bulldogs shot for a first round total of 285, 1-over on the par-71, 7,100-yard course.
Â
As a team, Mississippi State shot even for 56 holes and tacked on 16 birdies. The Bulldogs are tied with two other teams, Virginia and Ball State, for the 7th place spot on the leaderboard.
Â
"I thought we did a good job of having five guys in the round the entire day," head coach Dusty Smith said. "We need to make sure we continue that through the weekend. We had it set up for a good round but didn't capitalize on the easier holes coming in. We need to take care of the simple things tomorrow and everything else will take care of itself. I'm excited for these next couple of days. The guys are in a good spot physically and mentally."
Junior Hunter Logan leads for the Bulldogs after a 1-under performance and will head into the second round at tied for 22nd. Logan maintained a bogey-free front nine to perform steady golf as he went even for 13 holes.
Â
Not far behind Logan are Bulldogs Ben Nelson and Ruan Pretorius, both tied for 31st place at even for par. Nelson collected six birdies throughout the day and Pretorius shot even for 12 holes.
Â
Sophomore Pedro Cruz Silva is at 2-over tied for 54th place after the first round. Senior Ford Clegg shot 4-over for the day with freshman Jay Nimmo at 5-over.
Â
The Bulldogs will tee off on Hole 1 tomorrow at approximately 9:30 a.m. led by Clegg to begin the second round of competition.
