FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Mississippi State men's golf program is set to compete in the final road tournament of the regular season at the 2022 Mason Rudolph Championship.
The 54-hole event will take place Friday, April 1, through Sunday, April 3 at the par-71, 7,100-yard Vanderbilt Legends Club course. Mississippi State will tee off from Hole 1 on Friday beginning at approximately 10:20 a.m.
"We have a tremendous opportunity ahead of us," head coach Dusty Smith said. "It's our goal the entire year to be better at the end. I feel like we are starting to play some of our best golf. The Mason is a very special event, and we are excited to be a part of it. Our mindset needs to be on our toughness. We need to have great awareness, acceptance, adaptability and attention to be successful this week."
Mississippi State will face a 15-team field with some of the top competitors in the nation including host No. 3 Vanderbilt, No. 15 Auburn, No. 20 Tennessee, Ball State, Cincinnati, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Ohio State, Santa Clara, West Virginia and Western Kentucky.
The Bulldog lineup will be led by the trio of Ford Clegg, Hunter Logan, and Pedro Cruz Silva, who have all competed as part of Mississippi State's starting five in every tournament this spring. Clegg (71.85) and Logan (72.75) lead the Bulldogs in stroke average. Clegg has finished in the top-15 in three out of four of the spring tournament competitions.
Rounding out the lineup will be senior Ben Nelson and graduate student Ruan Pretorius. This will be Nelson's 20th time competing for the Maroon and White. After dealing with an ankle injury in the fall, Pretorius has made a comeback during the spring and will be competing in his fourth tournament. Freshman Jay Nimmo will be competing individually for State.
During State's last competition at the All-American Intercollegiate, the Bulldogs ended their time in Texas with a fifth-place finish at 15-over. Pretorius posted a career-best finish, tying for third after shooting a career-low round of 66 in the second round. Clegg earned another top-15 finish at tied for 14th.
