The Bulldogs Fall To 36th-Ranked Georgia

Athens, GA. – No. 56 Mississippi State's women's tennis fell to 36th-ranked Georgia 6-1 on Sunday.Â

MSU (8-5, 0-2 SEC) picked up a singles victory on the day. Tamara Racine earned a win against UGA's No. 22 Mell Reasco. Reasco took the first set 7-5, but Racine fought back in the second set 6-4 and ultimately took the third set in a super tiebreaker 10-7.Â

Racine's win against Reasco was her highest-ranked win in her MSU career. Her previous high came in the fall when Racine defeated then No. 45 Carolyn Ansari of Auburn last fall in the ITA Southern Regional Championships 6-3. 6-3.Â

MSU's 69th-ranked Emmanouela Antonaki fell to No. 42 Lea Ma. Antonaki and Ma fought back and forth, but Ma took both sets in tiebreakers 7-6(5), 7-6(1).Â

Alessia Tagliente went back and forth in the first set with No. 58 Meg Kowalski, but Kowalski took the set 7-5. Kowalski defeated Tagliente 6-2 in the second set.Â

The visiting Bulldogs' 99th-ranked Dasha Vidmanova defeated Chloé Ciotte 6-3, 6-3. MSU's Alexandra Mikhailuk fell to Morgan Coppoc 6-4, 6-3 and Marta Falceto dropped to No. 101 Ania Hertel of UGA 6-1, 6-2.Â

Georgia (5-2, 2-0 SEC) also took the doubles point to start the afternoon off. UGA's tandem of Coppoc and Ania Hertel took down the duo of Antonaki and Racine 6-1. Reasco and Vidmanova clinched the win for UGA over Cirotte and Marta Falceto 6-3.Â

It was the second time MSU has faced Georgia this season. MSU faced Georgia in the ITA Kickoff in Athens on Jan. 29, a match in which Georgia ultimately took 4-1.Â

MSU will now turn its attention to their Southeastern Conference home opener. The Bulldogs host No. 8 Texas A&M on Friday at 4 p.m. followed by LSU at home on Sunday at 12 p.m.
