MSU now heads to Biloxi to face Texas Tech in a pair of midweek games at MGM Park
NEW ORLEANS – No. 9 Mississippi State (6-6) dropped the series finale to Tulane (10-2) by a score of 5-4 on Sunday (March 6) at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium in New Orleans.
Mississippi State trailed 2-0 after the first two innings, but eventually scored in three straight innings for a 4-3 lead. However, Tulane plated the final two runs of the game on a bases-loaded balk in the seventh and an RBI double in the eighth to clinch the series over the Dawgs.
MSU reliever Drew Talley was charged with the loss after coming on in the seventh and allowing a run on two hits and a walk in 1.1 innings. Cade Smith started and allowed four runs – all earned – on eight hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 6.1 innings. Brooks Auger and Cam Tullar also made relief appearances in the contest.
Tulane's Lane Thomas earned the win on the mound after holding State hitless in 1.2 innings of relief. Zach DeVito (2) picked up his second save of the season after coming in to pitch a clean ninth inning.
At the plate, Mississippi State totaled four hits in the contest compared to 10 by the Green Wave. Freshman designated hitter Hunter Hines hit his second home run of the weekend, a solo shot to right field in the sixth that made it a one-run game at the time. Kellum Clark, Aaron Downs and Logan Tanner each had one hit apiece in the contest.

Mississippi State answered right back the next half inning with a no-doubt solo home run to right field by freshman Hunter Hines. The Dawgs followed up by loading the bases and then tied the game on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Brad Cumbest.

Mississippi State took its first lead of the game in the seventh when Hunter Hines reached on a fielder's choice and drove in Tanner Leggett from third, who beat the tag at the plate and gave MSU a 4-3 advantage.

Tulane responded the next half inning when the Green Wave loaded the bases and then scored the tying run on a balk by MSU pitcher Brooks Auger.
