No. 24 Bulldogs Host Sunday Doubleheader

STARKVILLE – No. 24 Mississippi State has another top 25 matchup to close out opening weekend of Southeastern Conference play.

The Bulldogs will host 22^nd-ranked Georgia on Sunday at 1 p.m. but UGA won't the only opponent MSU faces. Mississippi State will also welcome Mississippi Valley State at 4 p.m. as part of a doubleheader.

MSU (9-4) dropped its SEC opener to second-ranked Tennessee 5-2 on Friday.

Mississippi State will attempt to snap a three-match losing skid to Georgia and earn its first victory in the series since 2019. Sunday will also mark the first meeting between MSU and Mississippi Valley State in men's tennis.

Several Mississippi State players are riding hot streaks in singles entering Sunday's affair. No. 39 Florian Broska has won 13 of his last 15 matches while 74^th-ranked Nemanja Malesevic has emerged victorious in 11 of his last 13 singles appearances dating back to the fall.

Broska has earned four victories against ranked opponents during dual match play while Malesevic holds three such wins. Broska defeated No. 32 Adam Walton of Tennessee 6-4, 7-6(4) on Friday.

Broska now has 93 career singles victories which gives him sole possession of eighth all-time in the MSU annals. He needs one more win to tie him with former teammate Giovanni Oradini (2017-21) for seventh.

Gregor Ramskogler is also heating up, having won his past three singles matches. Ramskogler earned a 7-6(9), 4-6, 1-0[10-1] victory over the Volunteers' Martim Prata on Friday.

Mississippi State's lone ranked doubles team – No. 55 Malesevic and Davide Tortora – nine of their past 12 decisions dating back to the fall.

Georgia comes into Sunday following a 4-3 victory at 53^rd-ranked Vanderbilt on Friday. UGA is 9-3 overall and bringing a three-match winning streak to the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.

The visiting Bulldogs possess five players among the top 80 singles players in the ITA rankings led by reigning SEC Athlete of the Week Hamish Stewart at No. 22. Also ranked are Philip Henning (44), Tristan McCormick (47), Blake Croyder (74) and Trent Bryde (79).

Georgia also has four ranked doubles tandems – Bryde and Henning (41), Croyder and Erik Grevelius (42), Henning and Stewart (49) and McCormick and Stewart (60).

UGA also features the reigning SEC Freshman of the Week in its ranks in Thomas Paulsell.

Mississippi Valley State enters Sunday's second match winless at 0-5. The Delta Devils have been outscored 25-0 on the year and were swept in three straight matches at Nicholls State their last time out on Feb. 25-26.
