Women’s Golf Set to Compete in 50th edition of VyStar Gators Invitational

STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State women's golf team is set to return to the course on Sunday for their third event of the Spring as they travel to the Sunshine State to compete in the 50th edition of the VyStar Gators Invitational.
The No. 31 Bulldogs will play 54 holes over two days at the par-70 6,002-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course against a loaded 15-team field that features 13 of 15 top-60 teams. The field consists of hosts No. 7 Florida, No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 10 Michigan, No. 25 Ole Miss, No. 27 UCF, No. 37 Michigan State, No. 43 East Tennessee State, No. 54 Denver, No. 56 Tennessee, No. 57 North Carolina State, No. 58 Campbell, No. 59 Maryland, FIU, and Indiana.
The Bulldogs will go with the same lineup as a week ago when they won the 2022 Westbrook Invitational with a three-round score of 13-under (282).
Redshirt-senior Blair Stockett will lead off things for the Dawgs. In her previous outing, Stockett finished tied for 30th with a three-day total of 219 to finish 3-over. Stockett secured the second-lowest in par-5 scoring with 4.33 (8-under) in the Westbrook Invitational.
In her second start of the spring, junior Ashley Gilliam will shoot second. In her previous outing, Gilliam secured a top-10 finish shooting 3 rounds of par or better. Gilliam sunk 40 pars throughout the 2022 Westbrook Invitational to finish tied for 9th with a score of 4-under (212).
Junior Hannah Levi will shoot third. In her previous outing, Levi finished 4-over par (220) while shooting an even-par score of 4.00 in par-4 scoring over the three-day tournament to finish tied for 33rd.
Freshman Ana Pina Ortega will make her third career appearance and second straight start for the Bulldogs shooting fourth. In her last appearance, Pina Ortega tied for 30th with a score of 3-over par (219).
Rounding out the Bulldogs lineup is reigning SEC Player of the Week freshman Julia Lopez Ramirez. In her last appearance, Lopez Ramirez secured her second consecutive individual title delivering three rounds in the 60s to finish with 11-under (205).
The Bulldogs will be paired with No. 43 East Tennessee State and No. 56 Tennessee for an 8:30 shotgun start on Saturday.
