Women’s Tennis Drops 4-3 Decision At No. 16 Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Mississippi State women's tennis fell in a tightly-contested 4-3 match at No. 16 Florida on Sunday afternoon.
The day started off positively with the Bulldogs taking the doubles point against the Gators.
Emmanouela Antonaki and Marta Falceto upset Florida's No. 34 tandem of Alicia Dudeney and Bente Spee 6-1. Tamara Racine and Chloé Cirotte followed suit with their 6-3 victory over McCartney Kessler and Marlee Zein to secure the first point for MSU.
The Bulldogs (10-10, 1-7 SEC) also claimed two singles victories as Cirotte prevailed over Dudeney in straight sets 7-5, 6-2. The victory extended Cirotte's winning streak to three as she improved to a team-leading 11-5 during dual match play.
Falceto earned State's other singles victory over Sydney Berlin after falling behind and dropping a first set tiebreaker 7-6(4). Falceto rallied back to win the second set 6-4 and then prevailed in a super tiebreaker 12-10.
Antonaki, ranked 95th in singles, lost to No. 22 Kessler 6-3, 6-3. No. 123 Racine fell to 58th-ranked Zein 6-3, 6-3 and Alessia Tagliente was downed by Sara Dahlstrom 6-4, 6-3.
Florida's Carly Briggs clinched the win by defeating Alexandra Mikhailuk 6-0, 7-6(5), as the Gators improved to 6-2 in the league and 14-4 overall.
Next up on the slate, the Bulldogs hit the road again to face 44th-ranked rival Ole Miss in Oxford next Sunday at 1 p.m.
