School Record Falls on Final Day of SEC Championships

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – On the final day of the SEC Indoor Championships, Sydney Steely broke the Mississippi State track and field program's record in the women's 800 meters.

Six different Bulldogs scored points for the MSU men's and women's programs, in addition the men's 4x400-meter-relay group: Safir Scott finished seventh in the men's high jump, Jabari Bennett finished fifth in the men's shot put. Leon Clarke and teammate Steely both finished fifth in the men's and women's 800 meters, respectively, Rosealee Cooper finished seventh in the women's 60-meter hurdles and Jesse Henderson finished fourth in the men's 60-meter hurdles. Scott, Gabriel Moronta, Lee Eppie and Clarke finished sixth in the 4x400.

The MSU women's program finished 11th overall with 18 points, while the men's team ended with 21 points for a 13th-place finish.
"We had a really good weekend overall. The way we ended the meet couldn't have gone better for us. Now, it's about taking the energy we gained from this weekend and carrying it to the NCAA Indoor Championships, for the individuals that will be qualified, as well as our upcoming Outdoor season."

- Scott, Moronta, Eppie and Clarke run the second fastest 4x400-meter-relay time in program history.
