February 15, 2022 | Men's Golf
NEW PROVIDENCE, BAHAMAS – After another brutally windy day in the Bahamas, Mississippi State's men's golf team sits in fifth place at the 2022 Nexus Collegiate. Junior Hunter Logan has put up a fight and is sitting tied for eighth on the leaderboard after his 3-over performance in the second round.
Â
Logan played steady golf shooting even par on 13 out of 18 holes. Through the front nine, Logan was 13th, but his back nine performance propelled him to the top eight among his competitors.
Â
"Hunter played tough all round and managed to get us a solid score in the house," head coach Dusty Smith said. "I'm very excited for our opportunity tomorrow. This tournament has tested us in every way possible this week and we look forward to the challenge."
Â
Mississippi State shot a team score of 310 in the second round, two strokes better than yesterday's performance, which pushed the Bulldogs into the top five on the leaderboard. Despite the inclement weather conditions, the Bulldogs have shot even par for a total of 96 holes thus far in the competition.
Â
"We showed a lot of resilience out there today," Smith added. "I felt like we managed our emotions better and embraced the conditions today. I'm really proud of Benjamin [Nelson] and his bounce back round today. His round was huge for our team, and I thought he did his job very well today."
Â
Senior Ford Clegg is also in the mix for a top-10 finish, closing the second round tied for 17th place. Clegg shot 7-over on Tuesday and is four strokes outside the top 20.
Â
Senior Ben Nelson made a comeback and improved by eight strokes compared to his first round performance leaving him at 3-over for the day. Nelson is now tied for 24th heading into the final round.
Â
