
Logan Leaves The Nexus Collegiate With Career-High Finish

NEW PROVIDENCE, BAHAMAS – Junior Hunter Logan started the spring season off with a bang and finished the 2022 Nexus Collegiate tied for second place – a career-high finish for Logan. Logan's third-round performance launched him six spots up on the leaderboard.
"I had fun this week," Logan said. "I'm very pleased with how I played in the windy conditions. I was in control of my golf ball and did the simple things very well."
Logan had an overall score of 224 (+8) and shot even for the third- round – his lowest round of the week. Logan carded two birdies and an eagle on the back nine to carry him through the final round.
"Very proud of the guys this week," head coach Dusty Smith said. "They showed so much toughness throughout the week. Hunter's round today was one of the best I have seen. It was such a big round for our team."
Overall, Mississippi State fought its way to a top-five finish at the Nexus Collegiate, finishing in fourth place. They put up an overall team score of 931 (+67).
"Ford [Clegg] was very patient this week and was able give us meaningful scores every day even though he didn't have his best stuff physically," Smith added. "Benjamin [Nelson] was a bulldog for us the final two rounds and kept us in it."
Senior Ford Clegg put up big numbers for the Bulldogs this week and ended tied for 12th place. Clegg posted his best score in the final round and finished with an overall score of 233 at 17-over.
Another veteran Bulldog, Ben Nelson, carried State through the competition. After Nelson's first- round performance, he bounced back and improved his next two rounds by four-strokes or better. Nelson finished his time in the Bahamas tied for 23rd, climbing the leaderboard by 21 spots from his round one performance.
Pedro Cruz Silva and Ruan Pretorius rounded it out for State. Cruz Silva had an overall score of 242, placing him tied for 34th. Pretorius was not far behind and shot for an overall score of 245 and finished tied for 39th.
Individually for the Bulldogs, sophomore Harrison Davis ended his career debut tied at 48th.
"Going forward we need to get back to what we always do, focusing on the simple things and our elite mindset," Smith stated. "We have a few weeks before we head back out, and we look forward to the preparation."
Up next for the Bulldogs will be a trip to Phoenix, Ariz. to compete in the Desert Mountain Classic on March 5-6 for their second out of six regular season spring tournaments.
