State Finishes Day One At Nexus Collegiate

NEW PROVIDENCE, BAHAMAS – Mississippi State men's golf wrapped up their first competition day of the 2022 spring season sitting in sixth place. The Bulldogs will begin Day 2 of the Nexus Collegiate tomorrow, Feb. 15, at approximately 7:45 a.m. CT on Hole 1.

With high wind conditions down in the Bahamas, State shot a team score of 312, 24-over. The Bulldogs are only two strokes outside of the top five of the leaderboard and tied with Charlotte.

"It was obviously a brutally difficult round of golf," head coach Dusty Smith said. "I was really proud of how we hung in there on the back nine. We have plenty to clean up these next few rounds. We need to dominate the simple things. The wind and course set up made it hard to take advantage of a lot of the holes. We need to understand the day better and make sure we have all five guys in the round tomorrow."

Junior Hunter Logan currently leads the Bulldogs at 5-over and is tied for 16th place with four other competitors. Logan tacked on three birdies today.

Tied together are graduate student Ruan Pretorius and senior Ford Clegg in 22nd place with a score of 6-over. Pretorius made 11 even pars throughout the course, with Clegg right behind him with 10 even holes.

Sophomore Pedro Cruz Silva sits tied for 27th after Round 1. Cruz Silva came back from his front nine performance and shot 1-under on back nine. He finished 7-over for the day.

Rounding out for the Bulldogs, senior Ben Nelson is tied with sophomore Harrison Davis, who is competing individually, in 44th place at 11-over.
