No. 18 Bulldogs Fall At Fourth-Ranked TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas – The first road test for No. 18 Mississippi State men's tennis season resulted in a loss.

The Bulldogs dropped a 6-1 decision at fourth-ranked TCU on Friday night and fell to 7-2 on the year.

The bright spot for the Bulldogs came as sophomore Nemanja Malesevic scored an upset over No. 15 Juan Carlos Aguilar 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. It marked the highest-ranked win of Malesevic's career and was his third over a ranked opponent in singles play this spring.

Malesevic improved his singles record to 8-1 during dual-match play.

No. 20 Florian Broska saw his 12-match singles winning streak come to a close, falling to 44^th-ranked Luc Fomba 7-6(3), 6-4. It was the first blemish for Broska in singles action since Oct. 16, 2021.

Alberto Colas and Bautista Vilicich fought valiantly but came up short after three sets. Colas dropped a decision to 52^nd-ranked Jake Fearnley in a super tiebreaker from the No. 6 position 7-6(1), 4-6, 1-0(6) while Vilicich lost 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-2 to Pedro Vives.

Carles Hernandez and Gregor Ramskogler also fell to ranked opponents. Hernandez was defeated 6-3, 6-4 by No. 109 Sander Jong and Ramskogler was downed in two tiebreakers by 69^th-ranked Lui Maxted 7-6(3), 7-6(5).

State also dropped a point in a tightly-contested doubles decision. The No. 32 team of Broska and Ramskogler lost 7-5 to Fomba and Fearnley while Colas and Hernandez fell 7-5 to Aguilar and Tim Ruehl.

TCU has now won back-to-back matches against top 20 opponents from the Southeastern Conference and improved to 7-1.

The Bulldogs return home to take on Florida State on Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. in a match that was rescheduled from last month.
