Bulldogs Begin ITA All-American Championships
October 01, 2022 | Women's Tennis
CARY, N.C. – Mississippi State women's tennis kicked off the pre-qualifying round of the ITA All-American Championships.Â
Â
Qualifying for the ITA All-American Championships will begin on Monday and the main draw starts on Wednesday. No. 52 Emmanouela Antonaki received a bye during the pre-qualifying rounds.Â
Â
Gia Cohen was the only Bulldog to take part in the pre-qualifying round of the ITA All-American tournament. Cohen fell to No. 98 Kimmi Hance of UCLA 6-4, 6-3.Â
"Gia [Cohen] played a good ranked opponent today," associate head coach Sachin Kirtane said. "She had a couple of close deuce points. She can play with anyone in the country and I think she will be able to compete with anyone in the SEC. This was her first match since March, so I think she just had to get some jitters out. I am excited to see what Gia and Emmanouela [Antonaki] can do in doubles."
Antonaki and Cohen will participate in the doubles portion of the tournament, which starts on Monday.Â
Â
The ITA All-American Championships is the second tournament State has participated in this fall. For Cohen and Antonaki, this is the first tournament of the fall they have participated in.Â
