School Records Fall on Final Day of Razorback Invitational
January 29, 2022 | Track & Field
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Peyton Mickelson and Jabari Bennett each broke school records to put a stamp on the most competitive weekend of Mississippi State's 2022 season.
Mickelson upped her own school record in the women's pole vault with a fourth-place finish mark of 4.15 meters. Meanwhile, Bennett's 19.40m throw was not only a new school record, but it also won the event for the Bulldog.
With three meets remaining before the SEC Championships, MSU currently has six athletes sitting in the top-20 national rankings, with eyes set towards the NCAA Indoor Championships: Bennett, Shayla Broughton, Rosealee Cooper, Cameron Crump, Mickelson and Asia Poe.
"We had a really good meet this weekend. There are some areas we need to improve on, but we are easily 10 steps ahead of where we were one year ago today. We take next weekend off with our eyes set on training and improving the things we've done up to this point, so we're ready for Clemson and Vanderbilt. Everything we're doing right now, though, is setting us up for a successful conference and national championship meet."
The Bulldogs will take a week off before splitting up and heading to both Clemson, S.C. for the Tiger Paw Invite, as well as Nashville, Tenn., for the Music City Challenge (Feb. 11-12).
