January 15, 2022 | Track & Field
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Five personal bests and 24 top-5 collegiate finishes highlighted the Bulldog track and field program's showing at the Vulcan Invite. Mississippi State athletes finished in the top five in all but one event they participated in.
"I'm happy with the way we performed today," head coach Chris Woods said. "We won several events that should bring a lot of confidence into the group as we prepare for our next competition next week."
The first event for the Maroon and White was the Women's 60m, that featured Rosealee Cooper and Jada McDougle who finished fourth and fifth, respectively. The duo also improved their own indoor personal best times, while Nykah Smith finished sixth in the event. On the men's side, Cameron Crump and Shamar Rose finished second and third, respectively.
In her first ever 60m hurdles event for MSU, Kennedy Jackson finished third, with Cathrina Morris crossing the line right behind her for fourth. It was the second straight women's event of the day with top-6 collegiate finishes for Mississippi State, when Alex Woodberry finished in sixth.
In the 400m, every Bulldog who competed finished in the top five. A first-place finish for Lee Eppie on the men's side and Cooper with a second-place finish in the women's portion highlighted the event. Shayla Felder's fourth-place finish was also a new indoor personal best for the redshirt-sophomore.
Safir Scott highlighted the jump events, winning both the high jump (2.06m | 6-9.25) and triple jump (14.68m | 48-2), followed by a second-place finish in the long jump (7.06m | 23-2).
