Soccer Opens Three-Match Homestand On Sunday Night
September 25, 2021 | Soccer
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's soccer program begins a three-match homestand against Florida on Sunday night with kickoff set for 6 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
It will be the Bulldogs' (2-3-3, 0-1-1 SEC) SEC home opener, and State boasts a 2-2-2 record in such games since 2015. The Gators (2-5-3, 1-0-1 SEC) enter Sunday's matchup fresh off their second win of the year, claiming a 1-0 decision in overtime against Kentucky.
"It's been a month since we were able to play on our home field in front of our fans, so we are obviously really looking forward to it," head coach James Armstrong. "It should be a beautiful night for a great soccer game"
Fans in attendance are encouraged to wear black, and free black soccer t-shirts will be given out along with free snow cones and black pom poms. Admission to all MSU soccer games is free.
State battled back to earn a 2-2 draw at Georgia on Thursday. It was MSU's third overtime match of the year, and all have ended in ties.
Andrea Tyrrell scored the tying goal in the 31st minute, the third of her career. Monigo Karnley opened the scoring for State just 17 seconds after the Bulldogs had gone down two goals.
MSU has won six of its last seven home matches with five shutouts in that span. The Bulldogs have allowed just two goals in Starkville dating back to Feb. 28. State has outshot the opponent in 11 of its last 14 matches.
The Bulldogs will remain at home next week to host Kentucky on Thursday, Sept. 30. That match will be nationally televised on the SEC Network and will kick off at 6 p.m. CT.
