Soccer Stays On The Road At Georgia
September 22, 2021 | Soccer
ATHENS, Ga. – A battle of the Bulldogs is set for Thursday evening as Mississippi State travels to Georgia for its second SEC match. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+ at 5 p.m. CT.
MSU (2-3-2, 0-1-0 SEC) is coming off a loss at No. 6 LSU, while Georgia (7-2-0, 0-1-0 SEC) dropped its conference opener to No. 12 Auburn. Georgia has scored an SEC-leading 33 goals, but State ranks second in the SEC in saves.
"Georgia's a very experienced team. They have a lot of players now that are fifth-year seniors that have been playing since they were freshmen, so they're solid from back to front," head coach James Armstrong said. "They're very dangerous going forward. They've scored lots of goals this year. They're one of the highest-scoring teams in the country, so for us, we're going to have to be really on point with our defensive game, but we also feel like there are some areas where we can expose them."
Mississippi State played six freshmen in its last match, including two first-time starters and one making her debut. The Bulldogs have used 22 different players.
State will look to join another set of Bulldogs as the only teams to defeat Georgia at home this year. Gonzaga handed Georgia its only home loss of the year in the first week of the season.
The Bulldogs return home on Sunday, Sept. 26 for a 7 p.m. CT kickoff against Florida. State's SEC home opener will air on SEC Network+.
