Women’s Golf Completes Day One of the Sam Golden Invitational

DENTON, TEXAS – Mississippi State concluded the first two rounds of the season on Monday at the Sam Golden Invitational. After 36 holes, the Bulldogs currently sit in eighth place after carding a 288 and 286 and are 2-under par heading into the final round.
In her collegiate debut, freshman Julia Lopez Ramirez finished the two rounds with a 5-under par (139) and is in a six-way tie for 10th. Senior Valeria Mendizabal used a strong second-round score of 68 and moved into the top 10.
"We got off to a bit of a slow start and spent a lot of the day trying to build momentum," head coach Charlie Ewing said. "Julia [Lopez Ramirez] played really well today, as did Valeria [Mendizabal]. Those were two very important rounds for us today, and it was great for them to be able to carry us and put us in a position to be successful. It's going to be very important for us to come out tomorrow with some of that momentum and build upon it right away."
Redshirt senior Blair Stockett and junior Ashley Gilliam finished the day tied for 43rd after shooting 3-over par (147), while junior Hannah Levi is tied for 63rd with a score of 6-over par (150) for the first 36-holes of the event.
Competing individually, graduate Lauren Miller shot an even 73 through the first two rounds. In the 36-holes played, Miller shot par on 30 of them, tied for most through the first two rounds.
The Bulldogs are set to compete in the final round of the event on Tuesday, as State will tee off at 8:30 a.m. CT with a shotgun start.
