Women’s Golf Opens Season Monday in Texas
September 12, 2021 | Women's Golf
STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State women's golf team opens its 2021 fall campaign in Denton, Texas, at the Sam Golden Invitational. The two-day event will be played Sept. 13-14 at the par-72, 6,288-yard Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch.
The 54-hole invitational will feature 36-holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday, with both days beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT. Joining Mississippi State in Texas will be Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, TCU, Houston, Kansas State, Missouri, Purdue, Tulsa, Tulane, Charlotte, UTSA and North Texas.
The Bulldogs enter the 2021-22 campaign with a lot of momentum following an impressive, second-place finish at the SEC Championships and a fourth-place finish at the Barstool LTP Classic.
Head coach Charlie Ewing, who begins his first full season leading the Bulldogs, enters the new year with a wealth of experience on a roster that features six upperclassmen, a sophomore and three freshmen. Mississippi State returns its top-four scoring average leaders from a season ago in Hannah Levi, Abbey Daniel, Ashley Gilliam and Blair Stockett. The four Bulldogs each posted a season average below 75 for the season.
In the year's first event, Mississippi State will go with Levi, Stockett, Gilliam, Valeria Mendizabal and Julia Lopez Ramirez with Lauren Miller competing as an individual. Ramirez is the lone Bulldog in the lineup that is making her Mississippi State and collegiate debut.
