- Mississippi State improved to 2-0 at the College World Series with a 6-5 come-from-behind win over Virginia. It is the fourth time in program history that MSU started its CWS stay with two wins, joining the 1985, 2013 and 2018 clubs.
- Chris Lemonis is the first Division I head coach to reach the College World Series in his first two seasons as head coach of a program in the Super Regional era (since 1999).
- Mississippi State currently holds the NCAA single season strikeout record with 771 strikeouts in 2021. Prior to 2021, the previous record was 732 by Arizona State in 1972 (70 games).
- With 21 strikeouts against Texas, Mississippi State set the College World Series record. The final strikeout of the game moved State past Ohio State's 20 strikeouts against Washington State in a 15-inning game in 1965.
- Mississippi State and Texas will meet for the third time overall in 2021 and second time at the CWS in 2021. State will face Texas ace Ty Madden for the third time in 2021, with Mississippi State starting Houston Harding - the third starting pitcher to throw against the Longhorns this year.
- Will Bednar (128) and Christian MacLeod (113) entered the College World Series ranked No. 1 and 2 in MSU history for strikeouts by a freshman. It is the third straight full season with a 100-strikeout duo and just the fifth time in program history.
- Tanner Allen and Rowdey Jordan took over the top spot in MSU's College World Series record book, as they each started their ninth games in Omaha vs. Virginia.
- As a team, Mississippi State has hit 72 home runs, which ranks tied for No. 9 in program history. It is the first season of 70-plus home runs since 1999. The 2021 edition is tied with the 1983 squad and needs one more to equal the 1988 team. State has five hitters with double-digit home run totals, which is the first time since 1998 that MSU has seen five Diamond Dawgs reach 10 home runs in a single season.
- Longhorn ace Ty Madden will make his third start versus MSU on Friday, as the first-team All-American owns a 2.24 earned run average over 17 starts to go with a team-best 129 strikeouts this season.
- Texas enters after winning a pair of elimination games the NCAA College World Series to push its record to 49-16 overall. The Longhorns defeated Tennessee, 8-2, and Virginia, 6-2, to set up the rematch with MSU.Â
