First Steps to Tokyo

EUGENE, Ore. – Mississippi State track and field has seven current and former student-athletes competing for a spot on the United States Olympic Team at the USATF Olympic Trials in Eugene.

Alumni Erica Bougard, Tiffany Flynn and Curtis Thompson along with current student-athletes Sarah Blake, Keshun Byrd, Cameron Crump, and Jesse Henderson have either qualified for or declared entry to the 2020 Olympic Team Trials for Team USA.

Bougard will compete in the heptathlon, Flynn in the long jump, and Blake in the javelin. For the men, Byrd is a triple jumper, Crump is a long jumper, Henderson is a 110m hurdler and Thompson is a javelin thrower.

Unfortunately, Byrd suffered an injury prior to the Trials and will not be competing.

The Trials officially begin on Friday, June 18, at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field, but no Bulldogs will compete until Saturday, June 19.

June 19 – Men's javelin qualifying round
June 21 – Men's javelin finals
June 24 – Women's long jump qualifying round
June 25 – Women's javelin qualifying round, men's 110m hurdle first round, men's long jump qualifying round
June 26 – Heptathlon day one, women's javelin final, 110m hurdle semifinals and finals, women's long jump finals
June 27 – Heptathlon day two, men's long jump finals

Trials coverage will be broadcast by NBC and NBCSN. NBCOlympics.com as well as the NBC Sports app will also have streaming coverage of selected events.
The United States Olympic Team will be announced on July 4.
The Olympic Games are slated for July 23 through August 8 in Tokyo, Japan.Â
