STARKVILLE – Chloé Cirotte of Mississippi State women's tennis has been named 2021 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southern Region Rookie of the Year, the ITA announced Monday.
"Chloé had a solid freshman year," head coach Daryl Greenan said. "She is a hard worker and very competitive. I think her best tennis is ahead of her and we are all excited about her future here as a Bulldog. This is a well-deserved award and hopefully the first of many to come in her career."
Cirotte posted an impressive 11-6 overall singles ledger, including 10-5 in dual matches in her first semester of competition in Maroon and White. In addition, Cirotte claimed six doubles victories.
The Orléans, France, native earned back-to-back SEC Freshman of the Week honors in February after owning a seven-match win streak from Jan. 24 to Feb. 20, not giving up more than three games in five of those matches.
Cirotte notched key three-set triumphs in MSU's 4-3 league wins over No. 15 Tennessee and at Alabama, as well as a straight-set victory in State's 4-3 victory over the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship.
As an ITA Regional award winner, Cirotte will be considered for the national Rookie of the Year award. The 2021 ITA national awards will be announced Monday, June 21.
