Tanner Added to Buster Posey Award Watch List

Tanner added to watch list for award given to top collegiate catcher
STARKVILLE – Second-year freshman catcher Logan Tanner has been added to the watch list for the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award presented by the Kamerion Wimbley Foundation.

Tanner was one of eight catchers added to the awards watch list with semifinalists named on May 20 and finalists slated for release on June 7. The award, formerly known as the Johnny Bench Award, has a previous Bulldog winner, as Mississippi State's Ed Easley earned the award during the 2007 season.

On the season, Tanner has thrown out nine of 23 potential base stealers in 33 starts behind the plate and is fielding at a .996 clip with only two errors on the season. Along with 425 putouts he has 19 assists – including those nine caught stealing.

At the plate, he owns a team-best nine home runs entering the weekend series at South Carolina and has produced 36 RBIs on 41 hits. He has added nine doubles and scored 30 runs with a .273 batting average. The right-handed hitter has worked 23 walks and owns a .368 on-base percentage.

Tanner joins classmates Will Bednar and Landon Sims on midseason watch lists. Bednar is a part of the Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list, while Sims among the midseason candidates for the Stopper of the Year and Golden Spikes Award.
