Bulldogs Complete Regular Season at The Collegiate
April 07, 2021 | Men's Golf
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi State's men's golf program wrapped up regular-season play with a 13th-place finish at The Collegiate Invitational. State shot its best round of the tournament on Wednesday, carding a 2-over 288.
Â
Ford Clegg led the Bulldogs, finishing the round tied for 25th at 6-over 219. Hunter Logan tied for 38th. The freshman shot 2-over in the final round to finish at 9-over 222.
Â
Garrett Johnson shot a 3-over for the day carding two birdies. Loïc Ettlin fired six birdies, to post State's lowest individual round of the tournament in Wednesday's round with a 69 for the day. Senior Austin Fulton carded a 3-over 74 for a three-day total of 226.
Â
"We need to take ownership of how we played this week," head coach Dusty Smith said. "I was pleased with the character we showed as a team today. I'm really proud of Loic and how he rebounded from a tough few days. He did a good job of getting us a big under par score. We had five guys in it today and that certainly made a big difference. We need to learn from this week and get better from it. We need to do a great job of preparing for our next step. It's important that we stay hungry and humble and continue to put our head down and work. Post season is the best time of year. It is what we work for all season. I am excited to watch this team continue and grow."
Â
State now turns its focus to the SEC Championship at the Sea Island Golf Course in St. Simons Island, Georgia, on April 21. The tournament will begin with stroke play for the first three rounds (April 21-23) then move into match play on Saturday and Sunday (April 24-25).
