ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Mississippi State's men's golf team began its postseason with the first round of stroke play at the SEC Championship on Wednesday.Â
Senior Austin Fulton led the Bulldogs on Day 1.  He sunk three consecutive birdies in the back nine to sit at 3-under at the turn. Fulton then fired an eagle on Hole 2 to finish the day at 4-under mark in fourth place. Â
State's No. 4 in the lineup, Hunter Logan, shot even-par through the first eight holes of the day. He double-bogeyed Hole 1, but he made up for it with a birdie on Hole 7 to end the round with a 72. Junior Ford Clegg fired 6-over par for the round to finish tied for 58th.
Garrett Johnson and Loïc Ettlin both finished the round in a tie for 63rd place. The senior flushed a birdie on the back nine while Ettlin carded four birdies in the round.
"Tomorrow is a new opportunity for us," head coach Dusty Smith said. "I have a lot of belief in these guys. They are a resilient bunch. We look forward to the challenge the next few days."
State will play it's second round on Thursday morning with Ettlin teeing off at 7:10 a.m. CT.Â
