Mississippi State’s Antonaki, Adaloglou Garner All-SEC Honors
April 29, 2021 | Women's Tennis
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi State women's tennis student-athletes Emma Antonaki and Magda Adaloglou have earned All-Southeastern Conference recognition for their success on the court this season, the conference office announced Thursday.
Antonaki was named to the All-SEC First Team, while Adaloglou garnered Second Team league honors.
Antonaki has garnered All-SEC honors in both seasons that SEC awards have been presented during her career (no awards were given in 2020 due to COVID-19). She previously earned All-SEC Second Team and All-Freshman nods in 2019 as a true freshman. Antonaki owns a 16-4 overall ledger in singles this season including an incredible 14-4 in dual matches, 5-4 in the SEC at the top two positions in the lineup.
The 2020 ITA Southern Region Player to Watch began the 2021 campaign right where she left off last spring, stretching her singles win streak to 16 straight matches.
The Athens, Greece, native earned the highest ITA singles ranking of her career earlier this season at No. 19 and is currently ranked No. 27 after defeating four ranked opponents in 2021. She owns a .667 win percentage against ranked opponents, .600 versus Top 50 foes.
Antonaki is in position to secure a bid to the 2021 NCAA Singles Championship, which will be held May 23-28 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. She participated in the 2019 NCAA Singles field as a rookie as well.
In just five semesters of competition, Antonaki has compiled 103 wins in singles and doubles, just 14 wins shy of MSU's career top 10 for total victories. She currently ranks in the top 5 in program history for career doubles win percentage (.640) and career singles win percentage (.647), and ranks sixth for combined win percentage (.644).
Adaloglou's All-SEC laurel this year marks the first league honor for the Bulldog veteran. In singles this season, she has registered a 12-5 record overall, including a 11-4 ledger in dual matches, 4-2 in the SEC at the No. 2 and 3 positions in State's lineup.
The Veria, Greece, native was ranked as high as 61st nationally earlier this season in singles. In addition, Adaloglou and teammate Tamara Racine matched their highest ITA ranking as a doubles duo at No. 14 on March 30 and are currently ranked No. 21 in the latest national poll released Wednesday. The pair has ousted four ranked opponents in 2021, including two within the top 20, and is expecting a bid to the 2021 NCAA Doubles Championship, also in Orlando later this month.
Adaloglou stands sixth all-time at State in total career victories (123), 10th in singles wins (65) and seventh in doubles triumphs (58) for the Maroon and White.
Antonaki, Adaloglou and the remainder of the Bulldog squad will learn their 2021 postseason destiny this Monday, May 3, when selections for the 2021 NCAA Team Championship are announced.
