Jackson Named WBCA Coaches’ All-America Team Regional Finalist
March 24, 2021 | Women's Basketball
ATLANTA – For the second year in a row, Mississippi State's Rickea Jackson was named a regional finalist for the WBCA Coaches' All-America Team.
This marks the sixth straight year that Mississippi State has landed at least one Bulldog on the WBCA All-Region 2 Team. Jackson joined former All-Americans Teaira McCowan and Victoria Vivians as the only State players to earn a spot on the team multiple times. A selection committee will determine the 10-member All-America team from the 52 region finalists from across the country.
Jackson led MSU in scoring this season with 14.9 points per game. For the year, she recorded 15 games with double-digit scoring, including three 20-point performances. Her best outing of the season came against Troy, when she dropped 30 points behind a career-high six 3-pointers.
For her career, she's posted 11 games with 20 or more points, which is tied for the 10th-most performances by an MSU player since 1999. Of her 11 20-point games, 10 of those contests were against SEC opponents. She also boasts a pair of 30-point games.
The sophomore forward has scored 780 points for an average of 15.0 points per game since arriving in Starkville, and she's shooting 46 percent from the field. This year, she placed an emphasis on creating scoring opportunities for her teammates, averaging 2.0 assists per game. She recorded four or more dimes in four games, including a 16-point, 5-assist and 4-steal performance at Florida.
Jackson increased her shooting from beyond the arc, eclipsing her total 3-pointers made from last season (13) by posting 18 threes this year. That mark was good for fourth on the team. She also averaged 4.4 rebounds per game and tallied 14 steals and seven blocks.
