Bulldogs Face Arkansas State in Second Spring Match

Mississippi State hasn’t faced the Redwolves in seven years.

STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State soccer team continues their spring season on Saturday, March 13 with a noon match against Arkansas State on the MSU Soccer Field.

The Bulldogs (3-4-3) face the Redwolves (11-2-1) in the second match of the spring season for both clubs.

Mississippi State comes off a 3-1 win over Louisiana where sophomore Onyi Echegini had her first match scoring two goals. One was unassisted, while her second came off a cross from Hailey Farrington-Bentil. Andrea Tyrrell also scored for the Dawgs, heading it into the net off a set piece from Niah Johnson. Freshman Maddy Anderson continues to stay strong in goal, and head coach James Armstrong's lineup continues to see five freshmen receiving a starting nod. His young club looks to improve on the season with a win against the Redwolves.

Arkansas State comes to Starkville after defeating Little Rock, 1-0, in their first tilt of the spring. They are led by their No. 7, Sarah Sodoma, in goals, assists, points and shots as she has had seven goals and 53 shots so far this season while dishing out four assists. Their primary netminder is Megan McClure whose record matches that of the team for the season. Arkansas State's defense is tough, holding their opponents to just five goals on the season and 8.1 shots per game. The head coach of the Redwolves, Brian Dooley, is in his fourth season in Jonesboro.

Before coming to the MSU Soccer Field for the match, fans are encouraged to participate in Mississippi State Athletics' water drive benefitting Jackson, Mississippi-area residents impacted by the community's water shortage and boil notice following the recent winter storms. MSU will collect bottled water in the Barnes & Noble parking lot on campus on Saturday, March 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
