Adaloglou Posts Second Straight Upset
November 06, 2021 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE - Mississippi State's women's tennis team achieved a stellar outing for the second day in a row at the John Cade Invitational.
The biggest win on Saturday was Magda Adaloglou's dominant upset over No. 27 Sabina Machalova of Ole Miss 6-2, 6-2. It was Adaloglou's second ranked win in a row with her victory against Xavier's No. 100 Ahmeir Kyle on Friday.
It was also the highest-ranked win of the fifth-year senior's career.
"Magda has been very impressive this weekend," said MSU head coach Daryl Greenan. "She has been focused and has managed her game well. It is paying off."
Several other Bulldogs picked up wins in singles play. Chloé Cirotte took down Andrea Burguete Beltran of Denver in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Marta Falceto also earned a solid win in straight sets against Xavier's Anna Smith 6-3, 6-2.
Tamara Racine had her match go to the third set where she caught fire to emerge victorious over Anna Roggenburk from Xavier 6-3, 2-6, 6-0.
All four women that won on Saturday will advance to the final of their respective draw.
No. 22 Emmanouela Antonaki fell in a very close match that included two tiebreakers against 65th-ranked Ava Hrastar of Georgia Tech 7-6(4), 7-6(6). Alexandra Mikhailuk dropped her matchup with Ole Miss' Rachel Krzyzak 6-2, 6-2.
MSU mixed up their normal pairings for doubles play but still went undefeated by going a clean 3-0.
The only pairing that wasn't new was the 43rd ranked tandem of Adaloglou and Cirotte, who defeated Monika Dedaj and Mahak Jain of Georgia Tech 6-2.
The newly formed duo's of Antonaki and Falceto and Mikhailuk and Racine excelled against their opponents by winning 6-0 against Andrea Burguete Beltran and Taylor Melville Denver and against Miriam Gromann and Dolavee Tumthong of Memphis, respectively.
"We are playing some pretty solid tennis and competing well," said Greenan. "This is a culmination of a lot of hard work that the girls have put in through the fall. We are reaping the rewards of those efforts. We are winning some close matches and getting some big wins."
Day 3 of the John Cade Invitational will kick off at 9 a.m. CT on Sunday with one final round of singles.
In the first slate, Mikhailuk will go against Andrea Burguete Beltran of Denver and Antonaki will face Memphis' Camila Romero.
The second slate, which begins at 10:30 a.m., features Adaloglou against Georgia Tech's Kylie Bitchev while Cirotte is set to face off with Rachel Krzyzak from Ole Miss. Simultaneously, Racinve will go toe-to-toe with Mahak Jain of Georgia Tech and Falceto closes out play for the Bulldogs against Memphis' Dolavee Tumthong.
