Rogers Earns Maxwell Award Player Of The Week
November 16, 2021 | Football
STARKVILLE – Another day and another award for Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers.
Â
Rogers was tabbed as the Maxwell Award Player of the Week on Tuesday, his third national honor following his school-record comeback win at Auburn over the weekend. The sophomore guided the Bulldogs back from a 28-3 deficit and scored 40 unanswered points.
Â
It was the largest comeback in school history.
Â
Rogers was also selected as the Walter Camp and Athlon Sports National Offensive Player of the Week along with being named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week. He was also named a finalist for the Conerly Trophy on Monday.
Â
Rogers completed 44 of 55 passes for 415 yards and a school single-game record six touchdowns. The Brandon, Mississippi native currently leads the country in completion percentage and ranks first among Power 5 quarterbacks in passing yardage. He has also tied the MSU single-season record with 29 passing touchdowns along with current Dallas Cowboys signal caller Dak Prescott.
Â
Rogers' 40 career passing TDs ties him for the fourth-most in Bulldog history with Derrick Taite (1993-96). He needs two more to crack the top three and tie Tyler Russell (2010-13).
Â
The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder also ranks fourth at State in career passing yardage with 5,698 yards.
