PREVIEW: Women’s Basketball Set To Host South Dakota State Friday

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's basketball and South Dakota State will meet for the first time in both program's history Friday night inside the Humphrey Coliseum. Tip-off between the Bulldogs and Jackrabbits is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Strong Opening Night
• Rickea Jackson erupted for 26 points in Tuesday victory over Alabama State. Jackson's 26 were the most by a Bulldog on opening night since 2011 when Diamber Johnson scored 30 against Jacksonville State.
• Myah Taylor set a new career-high with 11 assists. It was just the second time in her career that she earned double-digit assists.
• There were a trio of strong Mississippi State debuts. In their Mississippi Statr debuts, Anastasia Hayes scored 17 points and added four rebounds and three assists while JerKaila Jordan scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds. Denae Carter, making her collegiate debut, grabbed a game-high 11-rebounds and scored nine points, all in the second half.
Block Party
• State recorded 11 blocked shots as a team on Tuesday. Leading the way was Jackson, who had a career-high four blocked shots, and Carter who added three more. JerKaila Jordan also recorded two blocked shots while Charlotte Kohl and Raven Farley each added another.
• It was the first time since March 8, 2020 against South Carolina (10) that MSU recorded double-digit blocks.
Know Your Foe
• South Dakota State is coached by Aaron Johnston who is in his 22nd year at SDSU. During his time in Brookings, Johnston has posted a record of 513-170, 13 NCAA Tournament appearances, a Sweet 16 berth in 2019 and 16 Summit League Championships
• The Jackrabbits come to Starkville with a wealth of experience. They returned all five starters from last season's Summit League Championship team, including Summit League Player of the Year, Myah Selland, and fellow first team All-Summit League performers, Tylee Irwin and Payton Burckhard.
• Including two preseason exhibitions, South Dakota State has won three games this season. In those three contests, SDSU is averaging 67 points per game and allowing 46.6.
Signing Day
• On Wednesday, interim head coach Doug Novak and his staff signed Debreasha Powe from Meridian, Miss. to a National Letter of Intent. Powe is rated as a four-star recruit by espnW and ranked 84th nationally. She is also the top recruit from the state of Mississippi.

Following its game vs South Dakota State on Friday, State will be back at home to host Alcorn State on Sunday, Nov. 14. At 5 p.m.
