PREVIEW: Women’s Basketball hosts Mississippi College in Lone Exhibition

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's basketball will host Mississippi College on Monday, Nov. 1, in its lone exhibition game before the start of the 2021-22 season.
The contest is scheduled to tip-off at 6 p.m., with doors to the Humphrey Coliseum opening one-hour prior to tip. The game will not be streamed online or via radio. In accordance with current CDC and Mississippi Department of Health guidelines, all individuals are encouraged to wear face coverings over the nose and mouth in all indoor locations while on the MSU campus.
Bulldog Storylines
• There are plenty of new faces for Mississippi State this season. The coaching staff features four new faces, highlighted by interim head coach Doug Novak. Joining Novak on the bench will be assistant coaches in Eddie Benton, Malikah Willis and Bob Thornton. Novak was elevated to interim head coach on Oct. 12 after Nikki McCray-Penson stepped down to focus on her health.
• There will be plenty of new faces on the court for State as well, with nine new players suiting up in the Maroon and White this season: Anastasia Hayes, JerKaila Jordan, Jasmine Shavers, Aislynn Hayes, Mia Moore, Alasia Hayes, Ashley Jones, Denae Carter and Raven Farley.
• Last week, Myah Taylor and Anastasia Hayes were selected to the Nancy Lieberman Award watch list, honoring the nation's best point guard.
• Rickea Jackson earned a couple of preseason awards this past week. Jackson was voted to the All-SEC First Team in a vote by the SEC's 14 head coaches. She was also named to the Cheryl Miller Award watch list, honoring the nation's best small forward.
• Since the 2016-17 season, Mississippi State has been one of the winningest programs in Division I. During that time, State has earned 141 victories, tied for the sixth-most in the country.
• State is putting a greater emphasis on three-pointers. Last season MSU averaged 6.4 threes per game, which was the fifth most attempted in program history.
• Milestones to watch this season:
• The 2021 signing class is a talented group that is highlighted by three ESPN Top-100 prospects. KN'isha Godfrey was a four-star recruit and was ranked as the No. 40 player in the country. She enrolled at MSU this past spring and appeared in one game. Joining Godfrey at State was Mia Moore, who was a four-star recruit and ranked No. 52 by ESPN, Jasmine Shavers, a four-star prospect by ESPN and ranked No. 55 overall, and Denae Carter, who was named to the 2021 Pennsylvania Class 3A All-State First Team.
To the extent possible, all transactions will be contactless, such as mobile ticketing, ticket scanning, touchless restroom fixtures, cashless concessions, and fan apparel sales. With contactless transactions, all concession stands throughout The Hump will be cashless.
