Bulldogs Wrap Up Action at the 2021 SEC Cross Country Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mississippi State ran to five season-best performances at the SEC Championships Friday morning at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course.
The Bulldogs earned 13th-place, highlighted by a top-50 performance by Sydney Steely. The Maroon and White's top finisher covered the 6K course in a time of 21:45.2, making it the fastest 6K time of the season for the redshirt junior.
After Steely's finish, freshman Faith Duncan (88th) and redshirt junior Ava Weems (93rd) were the next two Bulldogs to cross the line. Duncan and Weems finished 22:29.0 and 22:41.2, respectively, which were their best performances of the season.
Mary Beth Woodward crossed the line 14 seconds (22:55.3) after Weems, while Tekara Aimer followed closely behind with a 23:22.0 finish. Woodward beat her original time by 82 seconds, while Aimer rounded out the top five for MSU, improving her season best, as well.
No. 15 Arkansas took the team title in the women's 6K with 68 points and three top-15 finishers. Mercy Chelangat of Alabama took home the individual championship with a time of 19:55.2.
