October 24, 2021 | Women's Golf
STARKVILLE– The Bulldogs are coming home. Mississippi State will close out its fall season by hosting its annual event, The Ally, at Old Waverly Golf Club on October 25-27.
MSU has a strong five playing this week led by the junior duo of Hannah Levi, who has competed in all four previous fall events and Abbey Daniel, who will be competing in The Ally for the second straight year in the second spot.
Redshirt senior Blair Stockett, who had a strong final round in the 2020 edition of The Ally where she rolled in five birdies, is playing in the third spot. At No. 4 will be junior Ashley Gilliam, who placed top-10 in The Ally in 2020 shooting 1-under par.
Rounding out the lineup for State is freshman Julia Lopez Ramirez who is competing in her first home event and looking for a third top-10 finish on the year.
Competing individually, the graduate duo of Lauren Miller and Valeria Mendizabal will be competing in their fourth event of the fall season. Sophomore Jarutrawee Khotchagrai will be making her fall season debut and second appearance of her career. Freshman Ana Pina Ortega will round out the individual players for MSU competing in her first event of the fall.
The 42nd ranked Bulldogs are hosting an event that will feature a loaded tournament field including 11 SEC teams (No.3 Arkansas, No. 8 Florida, No. 17 Alabama, No. 18 Texas A&M, No. 20 LSU, No. 26 Auburn, No. 33 Kentucky, No. 39 Vanderbilt, Missouri, and Tennessee) with the lone non-SEC school, No.13 TCU, rounding out the 12-team field.
"There are some really good teams coming in and it is fun to host and showcase a home that we are very proud of," head coach Charlie Ewing said. "It is fun to play the golf course in a different setting than what we are used to and compete on a national stage."
The Ally is an event to honor former Mississippi State golfer, Ally McDonald Ewing. During her time at State, McDonald was recognized as an All-American, All-SEC player and set numerous program records. In her four years at State, she racked up five top-10 finishes and only finished one event outside the top 25. The Fulton, Mississippi native has represented the program in the LPGA since 2016 and became the first MSU alumni to win an LPGA tour event in 2020. Most recently, Ewing won the 2021 Bank of Hope LPGA Match and is ranked 23rd in the LPGA Rolex and CME rankings.
The Ally will be played over three days with teams playing 18 holes each day. For the first two rounds, teams will tee off Hole 1 and Hole 10 at 9 a.m. CT, with the final round featuring a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT.
