Julia Lopez Ramirez Places Top 10 to Complete Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational
October 17, 2021 | Women's Golf
Chapel Hill, N.C.– Freshman Julia Lopez Ramirez adds a second top-10 finish in her young career after finishing the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational in a five-way tie for 8th. Lopez Ramirez carded a three-day total of 5-under par (211) while sinking the third-most birdies in the tournament with 13.
"It is really fun to see [Julia Lopez Ramirez] enjoy herself on the course," head coach Charlie Ewing said. "One thing that is almost a requirement for a freshman to have success early in their career is great teammates and great leadership around them. As a freshman, it is always good to have people around you that can show you ropes and what traveling with the team is like. That is something that is more unique than maybe what they have done in the past. [Julia's] success is a strong testament to the rest of the players on the team being great leaders and putting her in a great position to be happy and able to thrive. To play the way she does, you must hit some tough shots. Julia [Lopez-Ramirez] carries herself with a lot of maturity and belief. She has been able to have some success and still leaves the course with some frustration of where she fell short of her own standard. That keeps her drive high and keeps her from falling into complacency."
As a team, Mississippi State finished in 8th place with a three-day total of 4-over (868). The Bulldogs totaled 44 birdies over the weekend, the fifth most of the 19 teams competing this weekend.
In a five-way tie for 21st, Hannah Levi carded a score of 215 (-1). Abbey Daniel finished the second round with a score of 73 (+1) to finish 6-over to tie for 52nd. Blair Stockett carded a three-day total of 224 (+8) to tie for 61st Lauren Miller rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs finishing tied for 75th shooting 12-over (228).
Next time out, State will be hosting The Ally at Old Waverly Golf Course in West Point, Mississippi October 25-27. Pairings and start times are TBD.
