Team Cheese Takes 2-1 Lead In Fall World Series

Game 4 of the Fall World Series will resume on Oct. 18 at 3 p.m.
STARKVILLE – Team Cheese has taken a 2-1 lead against Team Goat in the Mississippi State Fall World Series.Â
Â
Team Cheese – named in honor of assistant Kyle Cheesebrough – secured the series lead with a 13-12 walk-off win in the bottom of the 11th inning on Monday in a scrimmage that originally started on Friday.Â
Â
Game 2 of the series was halted after Team Cheese plated two runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie things up at 8-8 against Team Goat.Â
Â
The scrimmage resumed on Monday with the bases loaded in each inning. Each team scored four runs in the 10th and Jess Davis finally walked it off with a sacrifice fly to left in the bottom of the 11th.

Both teams had 11 hits in the scrimmage.
Â
Gray Bane led things offensively for Team Cheese going 3-for-4 with a double, triple and five RBIs. Bryce Chance was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI while Slate Alford was 2-for-6 with a double and drove in a pair.Â
Â
Brayland Skinner and Tanner Leggett also doubled for Team Cheese with Skinner bringing home three runs.Â
Â
Cole Cheatham picked up the win in relief for Team Cheese, logging 1.1 innings and allowing one earned run on three hits with three strikeouts.Â
Â
Parker Stinnett started the game for Team Cheese and lasted four frames, giving up two runs on two hits with nine strikeouts and a walk.
Â
Luke Hancock paved the way at the plate for Team Goat, named after hitting coach Jake Gautreau. Hancock was 3-for-4 with three singles while Kamren James went 2-for-6 with a pair of knocks.

Revy Higgins hit a two-run homer in the third inning for Team Goat and RJ Yeager launched a three-run shot in the fifth.Â
Â
Pico Kohn took the loss. Kohn gave up one earned run in 1.2 innings of relief on two hits, three walks and a strikeout.
Game 3: Team Goat 11, Team Cheese 9 (5 inn.)

The Diamond Dogs held Game 3 of the Fall World Series immediately following the conclusion of the previous scrimmage on Monday. Team Goat got into the win column by scoring 10 runs in the first two frames for an 11-9 victory.Â

Team Goat had eight hits on the afternoon and took advantage of nine walks en route to the win. James was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate including a 433-foot home run off the batter's eye in centerfield.Â
Â
James' homer came immediately after Kellum Clark clubbed a three-run shot in the second inning.Â
Â
Yeager went 2-for-3 with two singles and an RBI for Team Goat while Hancock chipped in a double.Â
Â
Team Cheese had 11 hits in Game 3 as well paced by Chance going 3-for-4 with a double. Skinner and Hunter Hines were both 2-for-3 with Skinner slapping a two-run double and Hines also adding a double and driving in three.

Leggett also contributed an RBI double to Team Cheese's efforts.

Each team used four pitchers in Game 3 with KC Hunt and Preston Johnson each working a scoreless inning of relief.Â

Game 4 of the Fall World Series will resume on Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. Before then, however, will be an exhibition game against Alabama at Dudy Noble Field on Friday at 5 p.m.Â
