Chambers Wins Weight Throw on Day 1 of Razorback Invite

Two athletes in the pentathlon recorded personal bests.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Mississippi State saw three personal bests and a first-place finish on the first day of the Razorback Invitational.

The day started off with both the heptathlon and pentathlon for the Bulldogs. Jesse Henderson had a strong start in the heptathlon with two back-to-back runner-up finishes in the 60m hurdles and the long jump. At the end of the day he had 3,006 points to his name and finished in seventh place with three events left to go on Saturday: the 60m hurdles, pole vault and the 1,000m run.

Shayla Broughton, Asia Poe and Aley Woodberry competed in the pentathlon, finishing in fourth, fifth, and seventh, respectively. Broughton came out with 3,893 points to finish, as well as a new best distance in the shot put at 11m. Poe set a new personal best in the high jump at 1.74m, finishing overall with 3,612 points. Woodberry totaled out at 3,586 points for the day.

Francesca Chambers continued to impress in the weight throw, this time winning the event with a throw of 16.97m (55'8.25").Â

Shacquille Lowe jumped in his first collegiate long jump competition, finishing in sixth place with a mark of 7.17m (23'6.25").

Helen Claire Edmonds came in sixth in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.64m (5'4.5").

Sylvia Russell finished 10th in the 5000m in 17:32.22, her first time running the 5000m indoor.

In the 200m, Faith Gilbert came in 15th at 24.60. A trio of freshman tackled the 200m on the men's side, with Shamar Rose finishing in ninth at 21.41, Sema'J Daniels in 10th at 21.59, and Jordan Barrow in 17th at 22.21.

The last event to finish of the day was the women's long jump, with freshman Amy Warren finishing in sixth at a distance of 5.81m (19'0.75").

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday with the first event, the heptathlon's 60m hurdles, starting at 10:15 a.m. The running events will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the women's 60m hurdles, and the field events start with the women's shot put at 1 p.m.
