Mississippi State Men’s Golf Trio Named All-America Scholars

STARKVILLE – Three members of the Mississippi State men's golf team were named 2019-20 Early Wave Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, announced Wednesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Sophomores Ford Clegg and Ben Nelson along with junior Cameron Clarke all earned the honor for the 2019-20 campaign. The Dusty Smith era, now through its third season, has seen five total All-America scholar selections.
To qualify for the award, NCAA sophomore, junior and senior student-athletes must maintain a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade-point average, a stroke average below 76.0 and must participate in 40-percent of the team's competitive rounds.
Clegg leads the way with a perfect 4.0 career GPA. The sophomore played in all 21 rounds for MSU during the 2019-20 and carded a 71.95 stroke average. He earned his first collegiate win in October at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational, which led State to a team victory as well.
Nelson has posted a 3.33 GPA for his career. A team-leading tied for 18th finish at the Florida Gators Invitational highlighted his sophomore campaign in which he participated in three events.
Clarke holds a 3.31 GPA. His best performance in three tournaments for MSU came at the Trinity Forest Invitational, where he shot 1-under par and finished tied for 23rd.
