STARKVILLE – Mississippi State soccer is back in Starkville following a lengthy Labor Day road trip, and the Bulldogs host UT-Martin on Thursday. Kickoff on SEC Network+ is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
State claimed two road wins last week, taking down Eastern Washington, 1-0, and Idaho, 2-1. Gabby English was just six seconds shy of posting two shutouts over the weekend, but the Vandals scored a goal in the final minute. English made 11 saves last week.
Now, MSU turns its attention to the most-improved team in 2018. UT-Martin, boasted the largest year-over-year improvement in the nation in win-loss record in 2018 while winning the Ohio Valley Conference with a 9-0-1 run through the league.
"After a long away trip, we are really looking forward to playing in front of our home fans again tomorrow night," head coach James Armstrong said. "UT-Martin is a team that is well-organized, good going forward and really dangerous in wide areas. They're going to pose a challenge."
The Skyhawks are allowing just 12.0 shots per game, but 60.4 percent of those have landed on target. UTM's goalkeeper, Erica Myers, made 20 saves in the first week of the season on her way to OVC Goalkeeper of the Week honors.
Meanwhile, MSU is averaging 14.5 shots per game, with 50 percent of its shots on frame. Monigo Karnley has led the way with .857 shots on goal percentage (6-of-7) and has earned an assist in each of MSU's last two matches.
Two Bulldogs scored their first career goals last week, and MSU now boasts six different goal scorers on the year. Ten Bulldogs have recorded a point this season, which is behind only Vanderbilt and Georgia (12) in the SEC.
The Bulldogs' run of six straight home games will continue on Sunday when they host No. 18/RV Memphis at 7 p.m.
