Three MSU Women’s Tennis Players Earn ITA Preseason Rankings

STARKVILLE - With the fall slate right around the corner for Mississippi State women's tennis, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its preseason rankings Tuesday, with Emma Antonaki and Magda Adaloglou each earning a spot in the singles rankings, while Adaloglou and Tamara Racine appeared among the country's top 15 in doubles.
Antonaki will begin her sophomore campaign at No. 41 nationally after becoming just the third freshman in program history – and only second in singles – to qualify for the NCAA Individual Championships last season. Her singles ranking marks the highest of her brief MSU career, with her previous bookmark coming at No. 55 on Nov. 14, 2018.
The Athens, Greece, native paced State with 17 singles wins in dual match play last spring, all coming from the top two spots in the lineup. In her first season in Starkville, Antonaki compiled a 25-13 overall record, notching SEC All-Freshman and Second Team All-SEC recognition. Her 2019 performance also earned her ITA Southern Region Rookie of the Year honors.
Adaloglou joins Antonaki in Tuesday's national singles rankings, finding herself at No. 115. The Veria, Greece, native spent her entire sophomore season in the top three spots in the lineup, playing much of the year at the No. 1 position, posting a 13-12 dual match mark, 18-18 overall. She is 37-33 in singles in her two seasons as a Bulldog.
In doubles, the junior Adaloglou and sophomore Racine earned the No. 14 standing in the preseason national doubles rankings – the highest ever for the tandem - after wrapping up action last season ranked 50th. The pair posted an 8-9 record, including an upset of Tennessee's No. 6 Sadie Hammond and Kaitlin Staines on March 22, last spring. They were 5-6 in the SEC at the No. 1 doubles position for MSU in their first season playing together.
Adaloglou, Antonaki, Racine and the MSU squad kick off the fall slate in Greenville, South Carolina, at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic this weekend (September 20-22).
