July 18, 2019 | Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Proving yet again Mississippi State's commitment to academic excellence, the MSU men's and women's tennis programs earned team and individual honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the 2018-19 season, the ITA announced on Wednesday.
Both squads earned ITA All-Academic Team honors by meeting the required 3.20 cumulative grade-point average, while several Bulldog players scored the required 3.50 GPA for the 2018-19 academic year to earn individual honors from the ITA.
Matt Roberts' men's squad posted an impressive 3.57 cumulative GPA for the year, as the program earned its 11th-straight and 18th overall ITA All-Academic Team honor in its history. On the court, the Bulldogs finished ranked ninth nationally after claiming a second-straight SEC Tournament crown and advancing to the NCAA Round of 16 for the third time in four seasons.
The Daryl Greenan-led women's team recorded a remarkable 3.47 team GPA in 2018-19 on its way to earning the ITA team laurel for the 10th-consecutive season and 20th time overall. State's ladies posted a program-record fifth-consecutive winning season.
Individually, both teams had multiple players named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
For State's men, Nuno Borges (kinesiology), Florida Broska (management), Trevor Foshey (kinesiology), and Strahinja Rakic (finance) each earned the individual honor with GPAs of 3.5 or better for the year.
For the women's squad, Emma Antonaki (undeclared), Janina Braun (business administration), Sara Lizariturry (psychology) and Anastasia Rentouli (finance & marketing) rounded out MSU's ITA Scholar-Athlete list.
