Font Inks With State Women's Tennis

STARKVILLE – One of Spain's top junior players will join the Mississippi State women's tennis squad for the 2019-20 campaign as Marta Falceto Font has signed with the Bulldogs.A product of Zaragoza, Spain, Font comes to MSU with some impressive credentials following a successful junior career.
"We are excited to have Marta join our Bulldog Family," MSU head coach Daryl Greenan said. "She is an accomplished player with potential to make an immediate impact. Marta shares the same passion for the sport as the other girls on our team. I think she will fit in well with the culture we have here in our program."
Just this year, Font ousted Giulia Morlet – the ITF's 64th-ranked junior in the world - 6-2, 7-6 in an ITF junior grade 2 event.
In 2017, Font was the No. 2 national-ranked under 16 junior in Spain and the 44th-ranked Spanish woman overall. Also that year, she was regional champion in under 16s and 18s while claiming the regional master title. The phenom was ranked No. 161 by Tennis Europe that same year.
Font was a doubles finalist at the 2017 ITF junior Yellow Bowl Gran Canaria and a semifinalist in the national championship under 16s in both 2016 and 2017. She was also a singles finalist and doubles semifinalist at Tennis Europe Sanxenxo in 2016.
The winner of the 2016 Mutua Madrid Open under 16 Valladolid, Font qualified for the masters that year as well. At the 2016 Tennis Europe Apple Bowl, she was part of the duo that claimed the doubles crown while she also advanced to the semifinals in singles. Her team took third place in the national team championship under 16s that same year.
In 2015, Font reached the semifinals of the national championship by autonomies under 14 while she took fifth place in the national Rafa Nadal Tour master under 13 in 2014.
Font will join an MSU squad that has posted a program-record five-straight winning campaigns, including four NCAA bids in that time span.
