May 29, 2019 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State placed three women's tennis players in the final 2018-19 Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles and doubles rankings, released Wednesday.
True freshman Emma Antonaki came in at No. 72 in the final singles rankings after a fantastic opening season for the Bulldogs.
Ranked as high as 55th in the country at one point, the Athens, Greece, product earned a bid to the 2019 NCAA Singles Championship, one of just two Bulldogs ever to do so in their initial campaign. Named 2019 All-SEC Second Team, she was also named to the 2019 All-SEC Freshman squad. She notched eight ranked wins this year, three in the Top 25, and led MSU in overall wins (45) - 25-13 in singles and 20-13 in doubles. Antonaki was also named the ITA Southern Region's Rookie of the Year and is currently the highest-ranked freshman in the region.
In doubles, the State tandem of Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine came in at No. 50 in Wednesday's final poll. The duo paired together for the first time in February and tallied eight wins together over the course of the dual match season, holding down the No. 1 doubles position in MSU's lineup. Five of those eight victories clinched doubles points for the Bulldogs.
Their biggest victory came on March 22 when they upended Tennessee's sixth-ranked pair of Sadie Hammond and Kaitlin Staines in Knoxville. That triumph came during a stretch when the duo won five of seven contests.
