STARKVILLE – Mississippi State put together one of its best performances of the decade at the 2019 SEC Outdoor Championships, bringing home nine medals with a combined 94 points between the men and the women.
State's nine medals were the most it has brought home from the conference outdoor meet since 2003. That year Pierre Brown and Marquis Davis won gold and silver, respectively, in both the 100m and 200m. The men added two more silver and two bronze medals, and Tiffany McWilliams won the SEC crown in the 800m and 1500m.
The 2019 Bulldogs were led by SEC champion Anderson Peters who highlighted a sweep of the men's javelin podium along with Curtis Thompson and Tyriq Horsford. Tiffany Flynn won a silver medal in the triple jump, and on the track Stephen Jones (3000m steeplechase) and Marco Arop (800m) took home runner-up honors.
Logan Boss (high jump), Rasheed Tatham (400m hurdles) and Charlotte Cayton-Smith (800m) all earned bronze medals.
MSU's men finished eighth with 57 points, their highest total since 2012 and best finish since 2015. The Bulldog women scored 37 points to finish 11th. Both teams posted their third-highest score since 2010. The combined total is behind only 2015 (103 points) and 2010 (100 points) in that span.

Team Notes
- MSU's nine medals were the most since 2003.
- 19 individuals and the men's 4x400m relay team finished higher than they were seeded entering the competition.
- Three new Bulldogs placed themselves in qualifying position for the NCAA East Prelims. Including those three, nine improved their standing in the East Region.
- The Bulldogs collected 23 season bests and 17 personal bests.

- #JavU's sweep of the podium was the first 1-2-3 finish by the Bulldogs in any event.
- The Bulldogs currently have 29 athletes qualified for the NCAA East Prelims across 28 entries. That would break the current record of 24 athletes set in 2016. State's record for entries is 35 set in the 2017 season.
Individual Notes
- Stephen Jones became the first men's athlete to score in multiple individual events (excluding relays) since Nathan Arnett and Emanuel Mayers both picked up points in the 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles in 2012.
- Anderson Peters is the first Bulldog man to successfully defend an SEC Championship since Garry Frank (shot put) did so in 1987.
- Peters broke his own SEC Championships meet record with a throw of 83.35m (273-5).
- Peters and Curtis Thompson now boast all of the top 20 throws in the NCAA in the javelin this year. All of Peters' attempts this season, excluding fouls, are among the top 25.
- Rasheed Tatham's run of 50.13 in the 400m hurdles moved him to 10th in the NCAA and fourth in MSU history. That ranks 37th in the world and is No. 14 among Americans.
- Charlotte Cayton-Smith's 2:05.23 in the 800m moved her into fourth in school history and is the third-fastest among Britons this year.
- Lester Miller is the first Bulldog to score in the men's 100m since Kendall May placed eighth in 2010.
