
McCowan Picks Up Third All-American Recognition of the Year

STARKVILLE – Teaira McCowan was named a First Team All-American by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association on Tuesday. She is the first Bulldog to earn a first-team selection since LaToya Thomas did so in 2003.
Victoria Vivians was a second-team selection last year. Thomas earned recognition from the USBWA twice in her career, giving MSU four total honorees.
McCowan averaged 18.4 points and 13.5 rebounds per game this season while shooting 66.2 percent from the field. Her percentage ranked fourth in the nation this year and is a new MSU single-season record.
She posted 31 double-doubles, breaking her own MSU single-season record, which was third nationally. McCowan finished the year with 662 points which was 23rd in the nation and tied for ninth in school history.
The Brenham, Texas, native led the SEC in blocks (87) and rebounds (487). She is the NCAA Tournament's all-time leading rebounder with 240 career boards in the postseason.
McCowan holds MSU career records for rebounds (1,502), double-doubles (70) and field goal percentage (59.6 percent).
The senior was also named an All-American by ESPNW and the Associated Press this year and earned recognition from the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association, AP and ESPNW last year as well.
