No. 50 MSU Women’s Tennis Falls At No. 2 Georgia Sunday

Athens, Ga. – Mississippi State women's tennis (11-8, 2-5 SEC), ranked No. 50, fell to second-ranked and SEC-leading Georgia (15-0, 7-0) on Sunday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens in a 4-0 decision.
UGA took an early edge in doubles, first taking the court two contest 6-4 between the MSU tandem of Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine and Georgia's Katarina Jokic and Lourdes Carle. State's Janina Braun and Sara Lizariturry controlled most of their match and ultimately ousted Marta Gonzalez and Meg Kowalski 6-4, with court 2 in the final moments of the match to decide the opening point.
There, Georgia's Annette Goulak and Elena Christofi bested MSU's Emma Antonaki and Anastasia Rentouli 6-3 to secure the 1-0 advantage heading into singles action.
In singles, Georgia took control by claiming five of six first sets. State's Racine was the first Bulldog to fall - 6-1, 6-2 to UGA's 34th-ranked Vivian Wolff on court four. MSU newcomer Meredith Roberts then dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Georgia's 103rd-ranked Kowalski at no. 6.
Clinching the match for UGA, Christofi ousted State's Lizariturry 6-2, 6-3 on court five to seal the match. The remaining matches on courts one, two and three were suspended at that point. MSU's Adaloglou was up a set on UGA's 20th-ranked Gonzales 6-4, 2-4 at the No. 2 spot with Bulldogs Antonaki and Rentouli down a set at Nos. 1 and 3, respectively.

MSU returns to Starkville for a 3 p.m. CT matchup this Friday (March 29) against Missouri at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre in Starkville. State leads Missouri 6-1 in the series, 4-0 at home. The Bulldogs will also host No. 46 Arkansas this Sunday (March 31) at 1 p.m.
