State Women’s Tennis Hosts Missouri Friday To Start Weekend Homestand

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State's women's tennis team (11-8, 2-5 SEC) is set to open its second SEC weekend at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre at 3 p.m. on Friday, hosting the Missouri Tigers (13-8, 0-7).
In 2019 dual-match action, State is 8-1 at the Pitts Tennis Centre, outscoring opponents 45-7 at home. State's SEC victories this season included a program-first triumph over the Florida Gators in Gainesville (Mar. 3) in an exciting 4-3 affair and a tough 4-2 decision over 39th-ranked Auburn in Starkville (Mar. 15).
Bulldogs In The Oracle ITA Rankings …
State true freshman Emma Antonaki has consistently been among the nation's ranked singles players this season. The rookie currently stands 82nd in the country, holding a team-leading 22-8 overall singles mark through fall tournament action and dual match play. Antonaki retains a 5-3 record against ranked opponents, 4-1 against top 60 contenders. From Feb. 9-March 3, she maintained a team-leading, 11-match win streak, overturning two top 40 contenders in the process. She is 14-3 in dual matches this spring.
Know The Foe: Missouri
The Missouri Tigers hold a 13-8 overall ledger in dual match play, 0-7 in SEC action. When on the road this season, the Tigers are 4-4. State holds a 6-1 edge in the series and has taken the last four consecutive matchups between the schools. The Bulldogs are also 4-0 at home against Missouri. In the most recent clash last season, State ousted Missouri 4-1 in Columbia on March 23.
Missouri's Mackenzy Middlebrooks is the nation's 119th-ranked singles player, holding an 18-9 overall record in singles.
