State To Host Saturday Doubleheader With Alabama State; UAB On Sunday

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State women's tennis continues its seven-match homestand with another doubleheader on Saturday against Alabama State (1-2) at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and UAB (2-3) on Sunday at noon at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
The Bulldogs (4-2) look to improve on a 32-match winning streak in non-conference contests, with three opportunities at home this weekend. Under 10th-year head coach Daryl Greenan, MSU is 76-34 (.691) in non-conference matches. Admission to all MSU home matches is free.
Bulldogs In The Oracle ITA Rankings …
Two Bulldogs hold top 100 national spots in singles and doubles. State sophomore Magda Adaloglou rests in the No. 98 singles spot, holding an 8-8 overall singles mark through fall tournament play and four dual matches. True freshman Emma Antonaki is the country's 82nd-ranked player, boasting a 12-6 overall record in singles action, including a straight-set ousting of Washington's 25th-ranked Vanessa Wong in the fall - the highest ranked victory by a rookie in program history. Adaloglou and Antonaki moved up in the rankings, currently forming the No. 42 tandem in the Oracle ITA rankings while holding a 5-2 ledger with two top 60 triumphs.

MSU's second at-home opponent of the season holds a 1-2 record coming into Saturday, with the lone victory coming in the Hornets' season opener against Point on Jan. 25, 2019. In 2018, ASU boasted a notable 8-0 mark in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, holding a 12-9 overall record. The Hornets have gone unbeaten in conference action the last three consecutive seasons.
The series between MSU and Alabama State dates back to 2014 with the Bulldogs leading 2-0. The teams will meet in Starkville for the third time, the last meeting being in 2015 when the Bulldogs collected a 7-0 sweep.
Know The Foe: UAB
The visitors from the east travel to Starkville for the 17th time since the series inaugurated in 1980. MSU leads the series 25-3 overall, 14-2 in Starkville, and the Bulldogs are currently on a 15-match win streak against the Blazers that began in 1998. State last took a 4-1 decision over the Blazers on Feb. 4, 2018, at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
UAB is 2-3 on the year, heading into a Saturday matchup against South Alabama. In 2018, the Blazers posted an even 12-12 ledger and 1-2 mark in Conference USA play.

The Bulldogs swept their home-opening doubleheader last Saturday (Feb. 2) against Alcorn State in 7-0 and 4-0 decisions. In the first match, MSU outscored the Braves 72-4 in doubles and singles games. Senior Janina Braun impressed, outscoring her opponents 30-0 in doubles and singles. Senior captain Anastasia Rentouli also extended her win streak to four matches, staying unbeaten so far in dual action.
Next Up For MSU …
State will close out its seven-match home stretch next Saturday (Feb. 16) with a third-straight doubleheader against North Alabama at Noon and 4 p.m. CT at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. Admission is free to all MSU home tennis matches during the regular season.
